In 1963 Carlo, a waiter in Genoa, is fired just because he helps Luciana, a prostitute, to save herself from the assault of her pimp.

Then the girl asks him to become hers and of other two colleagues pimp. Therefore Carlo asks his mum Lina – that after an initial hostility– gives him her blessing for this new job
